ملخص
Mr. Ghassan Tueni (Lebanon, 1926 – 2012) was appointed Permanent Representative of Lebanon to the United Nations in 1977 and held this post until 1982. Ambassador Tueni was active in Lebanese politics, he started his political career in 1951 and held several legislative and cabinet positions. He had a long career in journalism, including as a war correspondent covering Arab-Israeli war in 1967 for "An Nahar" daily, an Arabic independent newspaper founded by his father, Gebrane Tueni. After the death of his father, he became the editor-in-chief and publisher of the newspaper from 1947 to 1999, then from 2003 until his death in 2012. He participated in several missions to the United Nations in New York before becoming the Lebanese Ambassador. In this interview, conducted on 17-18 March 1998, Mr. Tueni discussed his involvement in the adoption of Resolution 425 and 426, which called on Israel to withdraw from Lebanon and established the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). He provided background information on these resolutions, the meetings leading up to the resolutions and their implementation.
