摘要
Lieutenant General John Sanderson (Australia, 1940 – ) became an adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations on Cambodia in 1991. In this capacity he became Commander of the international military component of the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC). After completing this mission in October 1993, he returned to Australia to become the first Commander Joint Forces Australia. In 1995 he became Chief of the General Staff, a post that was renamed to Chief of Army in 1997. He retired from the army in 1998, and in 2000, was sworn in as thirty-second Governor of Western Australia. In this interview, conducted on 10 July 1998, Lieutenant General Sanderson shared his experiences in commanding the military component of UNTAC. He assessed the parties involved in the United Nations Mission, the leaders of the factions in Cambodia, and the role the military played in its successful completion of the mission.
