He was appointed as Ambassador to France in 1969 and became the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs from 1970 to 1972. Mr. Abdul Meguid became the head Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 1972 to 1983 and was the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1984 to 1991. He was the Deputy Prime Minister from 1985 to 1991 before becoming the Secretary‑General of the League of Arab States in 1991. Mr. Abdul Meguid was still holding the post as Secretary-General of the League of Arab States when this interview was conducted on 03 October 1997.
